Louis Armstrong's career began nearly 15 years before Ella Fitzgerald's. In fact, Louis was one of Ella's first musical idols. By the early forties, Ella was already a well-known star. Although Ella and Louis recorded previously a number of singles together, their most important achievement as a duet were the three LPs they made between 1956 and 1957 for jazz producer Norman Granz. The first one was Ella & Louis, presented here in its entirety. They are backed by the Oscar Peterson Trio, featuring Herb Ellis and Ray Brown, with the addition of drummer Buddy Rich.
